2011 Allstate Sugar Bowl: Ohio State vs. Arkansas

Posted by VegasSportsline.com on Wednesday, 5 January, 2011

2011 Allstate Sugar Bowl
Ohio State vs. Arkansas

The Line: Ohio State -4
Over/Under: 58

The Ohio State Buckeyes make their sixth consecutive BCS bowl appearance as they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks tonight in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Amid the controversy of selling bowl rings and merchandise in exchange for tattoos, Ohio State looks to finish the season on a high note with their first win against an SEC opponent in a bowl game. This game features two of the top quarterbacks in college football with Arkansas’s Ryan Mallett looking to showcase his skills to the NFL scouts in preparation for his upcoming role as a franchise NFL quarterback. At 6′ 7″ and with the pocket presence of an NFL veteran Ryan Mallett could be the steal of the draft in April. As Mel Kiper Jr. says about the Buckeyes QB Terrelle Pryor, his best shot at a successful NFL career is as a “position change” guy. I guess he’ll be looking to win another bowl game so he has more goods to sell because the NFL may not be in his future. While the NFL scouts are thinking about big business these college programs are thinking about winning the Sugar Bowl tonight and this one looks like a fantastic matchup. Pick a winner and enjoy the game.

2011 Discover Orange Bowl: Stanford vs. Virginia Tech

2011 Discover Orange Bowl
Stanford vs. Virginia Tech

The Line: Stanford -3
Over/Under: 57.5

The best season in Stanford Cardinal history culminates tonight in a visit to the 2011 Discover Orange Bowl in South Florida. Their only loss was in early October to undefeated Oregon. Stanford has the most sough after coach and quarterback in the nation right now with Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck respectively, Luck is the odds on favorite to be the first pick of the draft as well. Tonight is his showcase game and there will be a lot of eyes watching as he steps on the field against the hard nosed Hokies of Virginia Tech. The quarterback on the other sideline is Tyrod Taylor, an explosive and exciting young player who leads a Virginia Tech offense that can really run the ball. Watch out for big special teams play as that is a benchmark of the Virginia Tech football program and they will be pulling out all the stops tonight to get themselves a big BSC bowl game win.

The 111th Army-Navy Game

Army vs. Navy
The Line: Navy -7
The Total: 54

While some would hope to watch the opening weekend of a College Football playoff tournament we are stuck with the reality of one regular season game on this upcoming Saturday, Army/Navy. For those who love this game or love to bet on this game then this must be an exciting time. What other game has it’s own website promoting it? Well this one does… http://www.phillylovesarmynavy.com
I’m sure many will bet the favorite, mindlessly, and hopefully that works out for them. It probably should go the way of Navy based on what we’ve seen from these teams so far this season. Enjoy the unofficial finale of the college football regular season and start studying up on the Bowl games.

Friday Night College Football: MAC Championship

Posted by VegasSportsline.com on Friday, 3 December, 2010

Chad Spann, RB, University of Northern Illinois

Chad Spann, Northern Illinois leading rusher and NFL prospect

(24) Northern Illinois vs. Miami OH
The Line: Northern Illinois -17.5
The Total: 54.5

Friday night inside Detroit’s Ford Field the red-hot Northern Illinois Huskies seek to finish their journey to win the MAC Championship for the first time in 27 years. This team has been unbelievable of late, finishing the regular season with a 71-3 win at Eastern Michigan last Friday. Winners of 9 in a row, Northern Illinois is the 7th ranked rushing offense in the nation, averaging 279 yards per game on the ground. Their defense is legit as well, giving up a conference low 18.5 points per game. They have also been efficient at taking the ball away, recording 16 interceptions and 19 sacks so far this season.

We could tell you about the other team but the fact is that everyone is going to bet the favorite anyway. Hey, sometimes the public wins easy, hopefully this is one of those games. Go Northern Illinois.

Michigan @ Ohio State

Michigan @ Ohio State
The Line: Ohio State Buckeyes -17
The Total: 63.5

Ohio State is playing for their season tomorrow while Michigan is finding their motivation in the rivalry. Either way you look at it, it’s going to be electric out there today, hence, the 63.5 point total. Michigan at 7-4, will be playing in their first Bowl game in the three years that Rich Rodriguez has been head coach. They are led by their versatile and exciting QB Denard Robinson. The Buckeyes have their own hero at QB with Pryor who is no stranger to big games. Ohio State will accept nothing less than their sixth straight Big Ten title / BCS bowl appearance, the only question is by how much will they win.

Arizona @ (1) Oregon

Arizona @ Oregon
The Line: Oregon Ducks -19
The Total: 63

The Oregon Ducks have their sights set on a BCS Championship and they will certainly bring their A-Game tonight, on center stage in front of their home crowd.  The real question lies in the numbers.  The over looks exciting; the 19 is scary.

It’s the Ducks

Ohio State @ Iowa

Ohio State (-3) @ Iowa (total: 48)

Saturday, 11/20 - 3:30 PM ET - ABC

It’s another huge game for the Buckeyes as they travel to face Iowa on Saturday.  With a win at Iowa and a win against arch rival Michigan the following week, Ohio State will secure their sixth straight conference title (either shared or outright) and keep their hopes alive for a BCS bowl bid.  While Iowa struggled last week and ended up losing to Northwestern, Ohio State put on a show, coming back from a 14-3 halftime deficit to beat Penn State 38-14, scoring 35 unanswered points in the 2nd half.  Last years game between Ohio State and Iowa went to overtime, with the Buckeyes eventually winning by a field goal.  Simliar to this game, Iowa was also coming off of a disappointing loss to Northwestern and they were without their starting QB who was hurt in the NW game.  On Saturday both teams will be healthy and ready to roll.  The Vegas sportsbooks will be loud with Ohio State backers and with a short 3 point spread you have to think that all they have to do is win baby win.

Georgia @ Auburn

Georgia @ Auburn (-7.5) (total: 65.5)

Saturday, 11/13 - 3:30 PM ET - CBS

This week’s free pick is another consensus pick from around the office here… everybody agrees that to total in the Auburn game is slightly high. Georgia is not very good and their best attribute is their defense. Auburn plays solid defense too and we believe that the distractions around Cam Newton will be enough to make the offense and the play-calling just a little out of sync.

Georgia @ Auburn
The Pick: Under 65.5

Washington @ Oregon

Posted by VegasSportsline.com on Friday, 5 November, 2010

Washington @ Oregon (-36) (total: 67.5)

Saturday, 11/6 - 3:30 PM ET - ABC

Number One in the BCS and Number One in the ultimate statistical category of “Points For”… that’s right, the Ducks are top in the nation when it comes to scoring with an average point total of 54.9 points per game!!!  What more can you say, it’s the fastest pace and most explosive offense in the nation and it is lead by QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James.  The system is sophisticated and the Ducks have the athletes.. World Class baby.

Looks like no Jake Locker, might not matter.
